Dr. Earl Trent is the chairperson of CWS and also serves as Senior Pastor of the Florida Avenue Baptist Church in Washington, D.C., the fourth pastor at this 101-year-old historic church. His ministry rests upon five pillars: Stewardship, Education, Evangelism, Missions and Social Justice. Under his leadership of 19 years, Florida Avenue Church is a vibrant, vital, joyful, and challenging congregation making a difference in the lives of people, the community and the world. Like Asma Lateef, he joined me early morning at the Martin Luther King monument in Washington D.C. to join for part of Day 2 of the 2015 100 Mile Hunger Walk. We live streamed the interview we had with him via Periscope, but unfortunately, we had technical challenges during the back up process of the footage. These are just a few scenes that we were able to preserve of the interview, still very powerful statements.

Saskia Blackburn and Sara Hondmann are students who are really active and always out there trying to make a difference. Except being students, Saskia and Sara are also part of the Student Academic Affairs Council at EUC (Erasmus University College) in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. Sara is the Chair of the Student Academic Council and Saskia is the External Affairs Officer. In order to ensure that we will reach the Global Goals (or Sustainable Development Goals) that we set for each other today, it is clear that we need to ensure that the voices of youth are heard. Well, let's listen to Saskia and Sara.

Asma Lateef walked for around 9 miles with me in Washington DC on a very hot day. She is a great colleague and friend and oversees the Bread Institute’s research, analysis, and education on policy issues related to U.S. and global hunger, malnutrition, and poverty. She currently also serves on the steering committee of the Scaling Up Nutrition Movement’s Civil Society Network and is a member of the executive committee of the 1,000 Days Advocacy Working Group. She is co-chair of the post-2015 working group of the international coalition for advocacy on nutrition. We show our back up footage here, but are not able to show the whole conversation we had with her. She explains to us what we can expect from the Global Goals or Sustainable Development Goals.

Lucy Sullivan is Executive Director of 1,000 Days, an initiative launched by the U.S. and Irish Governments in 2010 to promote greater action and investment in maternal and young child nutrition, particularly during the 1,000 days between a woman’s pregnancy and her child’s second birthday when good nutrition can have a life-changing impact on a child’s ability to grow, learn and thrive. Under Lucy’s leadership, 1,000 Days has aligned and mobilized advocates, thought-leaders, policymakers and a network of over 80 partners to improve nutrition for women and children around the world. Lucy walked me from the Zoo in Washington D. C back to the 1000 days office. It was an extremely warm day and while we were having a quick rest before leaving the zoo, I asked her a couple of questions about the 1000 days, the new Sustainable Development Goals and what drives her 100 mile. Lucy is definitely an example of a leader who walks the talk and I am very grateful she was willing to walk with me for part of the journey despite her very busy schedule.

We have been very fortunate with receiving answers to the question what drives your 100 mile (#whatdrivesmy100) and this little video contains footage from three of the students we met. It shows that the 100mile hunger walk is for people of all ages. Are you ready for 100 mile?
