100 Mile Hunger Walk 2016 preparations started
The walk’s purpose is threefold:
To raise awareness of global hunger
To raise funds to end hunger
To celebrate and promote volunteerism
Since its inception in 2012, the 100 Mile Hunger Walk has had an impact both locally and abroad.
During the first three years of the walk, Maurice Bloem raised nearly $25,000 from global supporters for CWS and its partner organizations around the world.
CWS Board Members, small business owners, local nonprofit leaders, students, and activists have joined Bloem for parts of his walk. He has also received an endorsement from Ambassador Tony Hall, known for his hunger-fighting work and three-time nominee for the Nobel Peace Prize.
Bloem has been interviewed by local NBC and FOX news stations, newspapers, and radio stations about the 100 Mile Hunger Walk. He has also received press coverage in Europe.
Bloem’s personal Twitter account has surpassed 9,000 followers, largely as a result of publicity from the 100 Mile Hunger Walk.
In the walk’s third year, Bloem invited women to submit videos to his blog answering the question, “What does women’s empowerment mean to you?” He received about 50 submissions from women around the world.
