Earnie Learns to Put Down the Duckie

Put Down the Duckie is a reminder from a Sesame Street skit that to grow, we must let go.

In order for us to grow, it requires us to set down ego, old habits, or control, and open ourselves to deeper listening, shared learning, and collective empathy.

Embracing inner development is essential—like empathy, critical thinking, and self-awareness; these are skills we must continuously strengthen.

(D)efine

We might use the same words but mean different things. Letting go of our assumptions opens the door to real understanding.

(K)nowledge

Knowledge gives us tools—evidence, wisdom, questions. The more we seek, the stronger we become.

(U)rgency

Before we act, we should ask—how urgent is this? Clarifying the stakes helps us move with intention, not panic.

(I)nner Development

These guide us, but they must come from within. Clarity about what truly matters is the start of everything.

(C)onnection

Helping each other is how we make meaning. Connection isn’t just comfort, but it’s how we grow.

(E)mpathy

Empathy is the ability to deeply feel with others, creating space for understanding, connection, and human-centered action.
